Last night was amateur punk night at Bernies as The Unseen came into town. Coming in with a $3000 guarantee, even the regulars were forced into paying the excruciating $10 cover.
The show started off with a band called God As A Bullet. Although at least it wasn't pop punk, it was way too upbeat for me. I promptly went to the patio to vomit on the ground. Thanks $1.50 Screwdrivers that you could read the newspaper through.
Next was the true gem of the night; the only reason I actually dragged ass into Bernies for this shitfest. Skagnetti featuring Zak Starky in full effect. Skagnetti is a great local punk band; maybe still a bit to posi but you have to take what you can get. Ratboy fronts the band and I couldn't think of many people more suited to front a scum act. Add to their usual set ZAS on keys and Bruce Wayne fucking around on the mic and you've got a Columbus super group.
The next band had Don B open them up with one of the best jams of Batman I have seen him do. His birthday party is at Bernies on Saturday.
The Unseen were normal; I had never heard them before. I doubt I ever will again. They seemed like the type of guys who landscape during the day, eat pizza at night and magically found themselves a spot on the warped tour. All of this of course adds up to a great night of watching kids in crass t-shirts with mohawks at their first Bernies punk show. Seeing some of them be dragged away by cops for underage drinking, vomiting all over studded denim and watching their moms pick them up made this night a clear 7/10.
