from the third hand myspace page:

The primary goal of The Third Hand Bicycle Co-op is to promote cycling as safe and environmentally responsible transportation. The non-profit organization provides community members with the facilities and tools, as well as the skills and knowledge to help make cycling an essential part of their everyday lives.

The Third Hand Bicycle Co-op is focused on creating a sustainable organization that will be around for years to come. The community driven organization offers workshops in bicycle maintenance, riding safety, organized community rides, and volunteer work opportunities. The Third Hand Bicycle Co-op wants to have a positive impact on the surrounding community in the form of mutual-aid, education, and increased use of alternative transportation.

Have you heard the old saying: If its too good to be true than it probably is? Please apply that to what you're about to read... To our dismay and utter bewilderment, we will NOT continue to move forward on the Mill Project....

Shop will continue as always @ 488 E. Dunedin...in the garage, normal hours Sat. 12-6p...

Please understand that we are still looking for a decent size space to move into and would appreciate as much feedback as possible.... Questions.... Send us a comment or contact Teddy @ (614)783-6968

I've been in the coop once, and was treated with so much disrespect by the people in there, that I won't be returning. I'd rather pay baer wheels to do work that I can't, than support the coop. I also saw an post in the bicycles section on craigslist from someone who got treated the same way. Fuck that shit.

hey exitwounds, i'm sorry you had a bad experience.

third hand is all volunteer ran, and sometimes not every volunteer understands the positive culture we try to embody there. a lot of times, people are confused while they are there because it is a little chaotic. i think a lot of people are so used to hierarchy and domination that they need a little more time to understand how a non-capitalist oriented collective organization works, whether it is new volunteers or patrons using the shop.

also, it is a diy space where if you feel you don't like something going on there, you are more than welcome to volunteer and help make it a more welcoming space. there are very few volunteers making sure the shop stays open, and they are very overworked. just denouncing online as a fucked up space doesn't make it better. although, no matter what people say, the shop will always be swamped because the community really relies on it, and i really think it is making a positive impact.

i wasn't calling it a fucked up space at all, i think it's awesome that something like this exists. when i said "fuck that shit" i was referring to being treated like an asshole, even after i donated a bunch of parts...
