Columbus local bands resource thread

Postby solar funeral on Wed Sep 17, 2008 9:04 am

If you are in a local-ish DIY band post your band and contact info (some information about your band would help greatly...some place where we can hear music, see what you are about, etc, if you have it, if not...a little blurb will do).

This will be redundant for many, but for those that don't know: in the DIY scene, local bands support the touring bands and for the most part....have a large part to do with keeping a local scene healthy and going. Without the local bands, most scenes will whither and die. Often, local bands don't get paid because the focus is on getting the touring band(s) enough gas money to have a successful tour....and at the least, help get them to the next destination. Then when your bands go on tour, those bands, in theory, will do the same for you. This is how so many small or unknown bands can go on tour with the door prices still being as low as $5, ya dig? Anyway, if you are willing to be part of the local DIY scene and want to be asked to play some of the DIY shows around Columbus, put your info here.

I think this will greatly help the bookers put together great (and sometimes diverse) shows.

I'll start it off with my band:

NukkeHammer
raw hardcore punk

this is a great idea dennis. i've been meaning to aggregate a list of locals, both for booking as well as compiling a scene report for MRR. been wanting to do that for a while!

Someone tell Laser to get a phone. We had one practice, wrote an entire song, had another one in the oven, and then never practiced again. I get the feeling that was the last practice too. If you see laser tell him to call john, so that we may unleash blasphemous metal fury upon the ears of the campus infidels and strike fear into the hearts of god-fearing men!

We are a new glam rock outfit looking to play shows. We wear makeup, funny clothes, and have a fog machine. We sound something like T. Rex, Chuck Berry and Queen all rolled up together, with a little bit of cheesyness sprinkled on top. Please book us!!!

Martin Luther & the Kings - Newport Ky. Localish to Columbus
We play a mixture of rock through the ages. Garage, Surf, Rockabilly, Punk, Hellbilly, and folk. Basically we just like to play an ecclectic blend of sexiness.
We can help bands get shows down here but REALLY need to get some booking help in Columbus.

We respectfully refuse to turn down or use less the two full stacks per instrument, , so if you are whiney sound guy who says things like "stage volume" or have concerns about noise violations we're not your guys. Also, if anyone has any good contacts in Indianapolis or Cinci let me know, I am trying to put a tour together in February and I know very few people in either city.

Thanks,

Jonathan Hape

experimental-indie-folk/rock/stuff.

it's me and some friends who try to make beautiful/strange pop. i have been playing in columbus, throughout ohio, and touring regionally for several years.

http://www.myspace.com/jonathanhape

although i have been playing throughout columbus for years, i have no idea how the house show scene works, or how to contact anyone. this could be the entire point of the house show scene, to stay under the radar, but i consider myself very much a part of the local DIY scene.

let's make music and stuff.

Jordan Martin

has sets ranging from folk to noise

with the folkier sets it ussually me and a bunch of friends playing baby toys and the songs are pretty silly. When it's noise or something more experimental it'll be a little more varying and complicated.

I think my style is pretty DIY. I try to make music with stuff I find around the house and not always intstruments sometimes things I make that jangle or dinky tings I find in pawn shops. Also, guitar too and stuff like that. Audience participation is fun. If a show could just turn into a room of maybe 30 odd people jamming then I wold consider that a sucess.
