Music is over rated. When depressed, reach for the liquer and a 9mm. Problem solved.

Thurston Moore just put out Andrew W.K.'s newest album on Ecstatic Peace. It is entirely solo piano improvisation.

no way. totally reminds me of being in love. and they're dead! no way. pet shop boys??!! im gunna throw up. when I'm sad, I feel like I need to get pissed to snap out of it, so I listen to something fast/aggressive like 9 shocks or hard like chokehold. I stay away from jawbreaker, the smiths, etc. that witches 7 in was a baaaad idea when I was sad a few weeks ago.

exactly. i used to listen to Infest almost every morning when i woke up so i had enough motivation to go to work.

on the opposite side, Dystopia still has the ability to ruin a day for me.

That funny Mickey because generic Cleveland hardcore makes me vomit. And lets face it, I vomit a lot more than you so I'm not just fronting about it. Pet Shop Boys and other soulful electronica like Brian Eno is cathartic and uplifting. Another pretty spiritual non electronic record that does it for me is Sonny Sharrock - Black Woman.

When I'm depressed and want to get pissed off to filter the laziness into aggressive productivity I turn to the iconoclast shit like Void, Siege, Man is the Bastard.

Andrew WK is a serious contender though:

"I want you to remember all the things that I've said,
I want you to remember you're not better off dead!"

I do like to listen to angry shit too, top of the list for bad mood would prob be outbreak or ds-13, but I've been listening to ds-13 lately no matter what mood

i mean, really, it's not badfinger* we're talking about here... the fact that they're dead doesn't at all override the fact that they recorded an awesome, nearly perfect, punk-pop record. still reminds me of road trips on sunny days, and that record pulled me out of a big funk a few years back. i guess it could be situational.

stay away from the sunny day real estate, still life, and evergreen records, and listen to some jamaican ska.

when i'm in a shitty mood happy positive music does nothing for me haha. listen to something relating to how you feel. It kind of lets me know someone else feels the same and everyone feels shitty sometimes. For some reason Right now you're in the best of hands album by Bear VS Shark has been doing it for me lately.

i like listening to last days of humanity, or 1.3.8 by Devourment. Any gut wrenching brutal slamming death that makes you feel like you're a 500 year old gorilla raging through the wet lands raping and pillaging the existence of all living creatures.

that shit is really empowering, i enjoy it a lot. Especially when you're upset, it's better to turn your sadness into rage.

I'm not familiar with this "out of a depression" concept... Eh, I dunno. Seems I listen to a lot of sad and angry music all of the time. But it also seems anything nostalgic can kick me out of sadness, purely for filling me with a different feeling.

Stuff like...
Adolescents
Gorilla Biscuits
Queers
Bouncing Souls
Defiance Ohio
Citizen Fish
MDC
Screeching Weasel

And basically anything else I listened to when I was 15.

It's not strickly music, but the bank scene from the movie "heat", with Bobby deniro and Albert Pacino. The background music mixed with the firefight in the streets of l.a. Brings me back on my feet, even though I'm not really ever derpessed. You guys should try it. Just make sure you train first and wear bodyarmor if you decide to do something like that while in your dark place....
